The Uniform as a Second Skin

Alma Sisneros was born in New Mexico, where she decided her face would belong on screen. She didn't desperately chase Hollywood glamour. She preferred to stay where the sand dunes and the relentless sun set the pace of filming.

And it worked.

In 2007 she made her film debut in Fuego, and that shoot gave her a sense of what the following decades would bring. On that set she shared space with actors who had already seen it all. But she only wanted to watch how the cameras moved among the flames of fiction.

Television gave her the paycheck and recognition that art-house cinema sometimes denies. In 2014 she joined the cast of The Night Shift to play nurse Gretchen Hale. What seemed like a supporting role ended up stretching across four full seasons.

Forty-five episodes wearing the same hospital scrubs.

Sisneros learned to handle the technical language of emergency medicine with a precision that unnerved the show's consultants. On network television, the pace is frantic and there's no time for hesitation. So she specialized in uniformed women who keep their cool while everything falls apart around them.

The desert of luxury supporting roles

Her career is a map of New Mexico's film industry. In 2016 she appeared in Hell or High Water, a film that restored respect to the neo-Western. She played a cashier in a scene full of gritty realism and dust.

Sometimes filmmaking is about being in the right place, even when the light is scarce.

In 2022 she shot Vengeance under the direction of B.J. Novak. The project let her step out of the usual action molds to take on a dark social comedy. Still, her home base never moved from Albuquerque, where the local industry considers her a safe bet for any big-budget production.

In 2024 her name appeared in the credits of Landman, the series from Taylor Sheridan about the oil business. Sisneros plays a legal secretary in a storyline where money stains as much as crude oil. Filming took place on location in Texas, with a per-episode budget that topped ten million dollars.
