Aymar del Amo started out managing budgets of forty euros per episode. Breaking into the industry involved no red carpets or big offices in Madrid. In 2008, the concept of the web series was a high-school experiment to most traditional producers.
Together with David Sainz, he launched Malviviendo from Seville. It was a production that ran on scrappy resourcefulness and very little money. That first episode racked up millions of views at a time when YouTube didn't know how to handle massive traffic in Spain.
And the industry was forced to look south.
Del Amo quickly understood that creative freedom depended on management. He founded Different Entertainment to provide legal and logistical cover for a group of creators who did not fit the molds of television at the time. But they were not looking for critical applause; they were looking for the survival of the project.
The move into professional television was no gift. In 2015, he produced Entertainment, a series that parodied its own reality following the phenomenon of Seville's working-class neighborhoods. There, technical rigor began to outweigh the improvisation of his early days.
In 2017, he worked on Mambo for the Playz platform of RTVE. It was a bet on musical content in a short format. The production demanded a different kind of coordination, because a public broadcaster's delivery deadlines don't forgive delays.
Traditional television was no longer the only path.
During the filming of Grasa in 2020, the focus shifted. Aymar del Amo concentrated on ensuring the series' raw aesthetic did not lose quality in the move to professional streaming. His role as executive producer became more technical and less romantic.
Producing in Spain is often a battle against the calendar. Del Amo has managed projects where the script changed according to the needs of the set. In 2021, he worked on the second season of Grasa, establishing a way of making fiction that prioritizes authenticity over artifice.
But his work is not limited to black comedy. He has taken part in the structure of feature films and shorts that seek a direct language. In 2023, he was part of the team that brought En fin to life, a series for Amazon Prime Video about a failed apocalypse.
Sixteen years of independent management backs up his working method.
Before shooting, he analyzes the feasibility of every shot. His name is tied to a storytelling style that avoids cardboard-cutout sets. The goal is always the same: for the money to show on screen rather than get lost in unnecessary red tape.
In 2024, he coordinated production logistics for national fiction projects with budgets that multiplied those initial forty euros by a thousand.
