Carlos Cuevas started working when most kids still didn’t know what a paycheck was. By age five, he was already appearing in national TV advertising campaigns. But his life changed forever in 2005, when he was cast as Biel Delmàs in TV3’s series Ventdelplà.

Filming dragged on until 2010. Over those seven seasons, Catalan audiences watched Cuevas grow up on screen, moving from childhood to adolescence in front of millions of viewers. It was an accelerated learning experience that forced him to juggle textbooks with long, intense workdays on the sets in Sant Joan Despí.

The actor was never a promise; he was an early reality.

The Impact of Philosophy on Screen

In 2015, the project came along that took his career beyond Catalonia. The premiere of Merlí was an unexpected social phenomenon for a series that discussed Aristotle and Kant during prime time. His character, Pol Rubio, broke away from the popular-boy stereotype to reveal the cracks in a working-class teenager.

Netflix’s acquisition of the rights brought him into living rooms across Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil. Suddenly, the actor who had grown up in the Vallès had gained massive international recognition. The pressure didn’t change his plans, and he decided to continue his education by studying literature at the University of Barcelona.

In 2019, he starred in the first Spanish fiction series spin-off produced by a subscription streaming platform. In Merlí: Sapere Aude, he took center stage for two seasons. The series explored his character’s coming of age at university and brought to a close a chapter that had spanned six years of intermittent filming.

But his massive success didn’t keep him away from the stage.

From Classical Theater to International Productions

His stage career has been steady since he made his debut in Madame Melville alongside Ángela Molina in 2011. He has worked under directors such as Julio Manrique and Calixto Bieito. In 2016, he took part in Galileo at the Teatre Lliure, showing that his interest in acting went far beyond teen commercial projects.

Between 2017 and 2019, he joined the cast of Cuéntame cómo pasó to play Marcos. It was his big break on Spanish national general-interest television. That role allowed him to work in a production environment very different from Catalan TV and share scenes with the veterans of Spanish fiction.

In 2022, he starred in Smiley for Netflix, a romantic comedy based on Guillem Clua’s play. The project offered much-needed visibility and allowed him to explore a much lighter, more physical style. Cuevas has always sought a balance between popularity and films with political or social themes.

Taking risks became his calling card.

In 2024, he starred in El 47, a film directed by Marcel Barrena about the residents of Barcelona’s Torre Baró neighborhood fighting for their community in the 1970s. He plays a young lawyer committed to the workers’ cause. The movie was filmed on location in Barcelona and had a budget of five million euros.

That same year, he also appeared in The Red Virgin, directed by Paula Ortiz. In this historical feature, he plays a young intellectual who crosses paths with Hildegart Rodríguez. The production was backed by Amazon MGM Studios and screened at the 2024 San Sebastián Film Festival, with a runtime of 114 minutes.
