In 2007, Pedro Piqueras opened a live connection from a mansion in northern Madrid to show off a massive dressing room with no closets in sight. That morning on TV gave birth to a public celebrity no network had planned.
Carmen Fernández de Lomana was born in León in 1948 into a wealthy banking family. She studied Philosophy in London during the noisiest years of British pop and worked in administration at Banco de Bilbao before marrying industrial designer Guillermo Capdevila.
For two decades she traveled across much of Europe and built an exclusive wardrobe of haute couture pieces valued in the hundreds of thousands of euros. But the death of Capdevila in a car accident in 1999 abruptly ended that upper-class routine.
So she decided not to hide.
In 2008, she appeared in a report on the Punto DOC program on Antena 3, and discovered that her refined tone fascinated filmmakers. She soon milked the trend with business savvy.
In 2010, she signed a deal with Telecinco to host a etiquette school in Las joyas de la corona while competing on the show ¡Más que baile!. Viewers tuned in to watch a aristocrat of good taste surrounded by contestants from the neighborhood.
That same 2010 she published Los diez mandamientos de la mujer con clase, a guidebook that landed more than 50,000 copies in commercial bookstores. Lomana understood before anyone else that snobbery packaged as entertainment could pay off immediately.
Nobody expected her to survive the mud.
So in 2015, she agreed to travel to Honduras for the edition of Supervivientes and endured weeks without luxuries under the Caribbean sun. Three years later, in 2018, she walked into the kitchens of MasterChef Celebrity to face professional chefs and relentless judges in prime time.
Dramatic cameras came knocking for purely comedic contrast. In 2015, she made a special appearance in the TV comedy Gym Tony, playing herself with carefully calculated detachment.
In 2016, director Carlota Martínez Pereda cast her in the short film Las rubias. The filmmakers didn't ask for emotional rawness or academy-trained acting. They wanted her sharp profile and drawing-room poise to tear apart everyday scenes.
The screen called on her again in 2026 in Fading Grandeur, a serialized production by Álvaro Fernández-Armero and Juan Cavestany for Netflix in which she shared supporting credits with Antonio de la Torre.
In 2025, she closed the chapter on her private life with the memoir Pasión por la vida. The book hit bookstores with an initial print run of 15,000 copies and a price set at 21.90 euros per copy.
