Celeste Dalla Porta was born in Milan in 1997. She grew up in a family where artistic expression was the everyday language: her grandfather was a renowned photographer and her father devoted himself to jazz music. Before turning twenty, she already knew her place was in acting, but she chose to train with technical rigor.
In 2021 she finished her studies at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. That period in the Italian capital was key to stepping away from media noise and learning the craft from the ground up, through theater and short films. During those years of training she worked in brief pieces such as La replica and Cecilia's Night, where she began refining an acting style built on silence and the gaze.
The process was slow.
Dalla Porta didn't chase fast fame on television or let herself be seduced by empty advertising deals. She preferred to focus on small projects that let her fail without the pressure of the big industry. Her academic training in Rome gave her an almost military discipline that caught the attention of several casting directors across the European circuit.
In 2024 the actress's career made a decisive leap when she starred in Parthenope. Paolo Sorrentino was looking for a woman who could embody the essence of Naples across several decades, and he found in the Milanese actress a balance between classic beauty and a very modern melancholy. The choice wasn't easy, because the Neapolitan director screened hundreds of candidates over several months.
And the camera bought it.
The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and put Dalla Porta at the center of international critical attention. In this production she plays a woman from her youth in the 1950s through to her later years. Carrying the dramatic weight of a Sorrentino film demands a physical and mental endurance that few young actors have in their first major leading role.
But she avoided falling into imitation of the great divas of 1960s Italian cinema. Despite the inevitable comparisons with figures from the past, her performance in Parthenope steers clear of cliché in favor of a rawer naturalness. Shooting on the streets of Naples was a necessary cultural shock for her, one that ultimately shaped her character in front of the camera.
The actress keeps a distant relationship with excessive public exposure. In interviews she tends to talk more about Stanislavski's technique than about red carpets. In 2022 she took part in the short film Red Mirror, directed by Francesco Rosso (an experimental work), and there she made clear that bold visual projects interest her.
She isn't in a rush to jump into Hollywood.
Her strategy is to choose scripts that challenge her comfort zone. Rather than stringing together similar projects, she looks for stories where the body carries as much weight as the words. That's why she devotes much of her free time to dance and to studying classical painting (influences she later brings to the way she moves on set).
For her roles, she often uses notebooks where she sketches the emotions of each scene before shooting it. In 2024 her name became linked to a new generation of European performers who prioritize academic training over social media influence. The distribution contract for her latest feature included specific clauses on promotion in international markets where Italian is not spoken.
