Chenoa

Before landing a TV studio job, María Laura Corradini sang at the Casino of Majorca in front of roulette tables and foreign tourists. For years she earned money playing hotel gigs while finishing her diploma in Early Childhood Education and trying her luck with local funk bands.

In October 2001, she auditioned for Operación Triunfo, and the whole country came to know her as Chenoa. She did not win the contest because she finished in fourth place, but she sold 500,000 copies of her debut album in just a few weeks and placed the single Atrévete at number one on the radio charts.

That far exceeded any expectations.

In the summer of 2002, directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza went into the tour dressing rooms with handheld cameras to shoot OT: La película. Chenoa appears in the final cut as the most composed presence amid the hysteria of the fans and the armored vans. The film opened in more than 300 theaters and grossed over 1.6 million euros at the box office.

The discipline of the music stand and the leap to the screen

The traditional music industry began to shrink with the arrival of online downloads and the collapse of physical sales. Chenoa followed up with releases such as Soy mujer in 2003 and Nada es igual in 2005, but she quickly understood that a long professional career depended on diversifying her appearances in front of the camera.

So she knocked on the doors of film dubbing. In 2018, director Nick Park cast her voice as Goona in the British stop-motion animated film Cavernícola. The following year she repeated the experience in UglyDolls, lending her voice to the character Mandy.

And dubbing directors took note of her rhythmic precision.

Standing in front of a music stand demands lip-sync precision and breath control in short takes of five seconds. In May 2024, the studio Paramount hired her to dub Blossom in the Spanish release of IF, the family comedy directed by John Krasinski. Chenoa shared recording sessions with Carlos Latre to match the tempo of the computer-animated characters.

Alongside this stage work, she made occasional forays into fiction, with a cameo in the feature film El pregón in 2016 and appearances in series such as En fin in 2024 and Mariliendre in 2025. She never aspired to be a method actress, but her on-screen charm opened doors for her in top-tier productions without the need to attend drama schools.

Mastering live performance and the cold hard numbers

On the small screen, her big break came in September 2016, when Antena 3 added her as a permanent judge on Tu cara me suena. The show, produced by Gestmusic, needed a personality who could assess pitch accuracy without falling into the easy caricature of studio comedians.

Chenoa brought technical judgment to the weekly votes, and that fifth episode closed with a 23.6% audience share and more than 3.3 million average viewers. But her breakthrough in the entertainment format came in November 2023, when the streaming platform Prime Video put her in charge of Operación Triunfo.

That decision broke two decades of television tradition.

Hosting three hours a week live for a video-on-demand app meant dealing with technical latency, signal failures and a flood of real-time reactions on social media. In 2024, the Academy of Television recognized that skill by nominating her for the Iris Award as best entertainment show host.

In the recording studio, the singer released the ballad La línea del tiempo in November 2024 with the independent label Alias Music. The track was registered under the official ISRC code ES-523-24-00001 after being mastered at The Groove studios in Madrid, with a dynamic range calibrated to 8 decibels.
