At eleven years old, Eugenia Suárez was already spending eight hours a day on TV sets, in choreography rehearsals and under blazing lights. In Buenos Aires, Cris Morena's production factory had no room for hesitation. You either learned to look into the camera, or the industrial pace left you out before the next commercial break. She came out of that machine tough-skinned, ready to handle media scrutiny that would, over time, try to overshadow her dramatic talent.
But Suárez wanted to make movies.
Her run on Casi Ángeles between 2007 and 2010 filled stadiums thanks to the youth group's musical phenomenon, although the formula had an obvious expiration date. When she left the company in 2011, Buenos Aires TV networks expected her to keep playing sweet characters in afternoon comedies.
In 2015, she broke that pattern by leading the cast of Abzurdah, the film adaptation of Cielo Latini's novel. To play a teenager trapped in an eating disorder, she had to lose six kilos (about 13 pounds) in just a few weeks, subjecting her body to a physical discipline that surprised those who knew her only from celebrity magazines.
The film drew more than 780,000 moviegoers to Argentine theaters and earned her the Sur Award for Best Breakthrough Actress. That role showed that behind the pop star archetype was an actress willing to look unglamorous and carry painful close-ups.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2016, she reunited with director Daniela Goggi for the feature film El hilo rojo. The shoot was plagued by turbulence from the celebrity gossip press, but ticket sales once again delivered million-dollar numbers across the Southern Cone.
The following year, she starred in Los padecientes alongside Benjamín Vicuña, a psychological thriller based on the novel by Gabriel Rolón. She played a woman marked by the trauma of family abuse, deliberately steering clear of any tearjerker melodrama.
So she looked for work outside Argentina.
In 2022, she crossed the pond to shoot Objetos in Spain, a feature film directed by Jorge Dorado, where she shared the marquee with Álvaro Morte. The story had her step into the shoes of a victim of exploitation within a trafficking ring, moving between the urban streets of Madrid and the rugged mountain landscapes of Jujuy province.
That same year, she appeared in the series Terapia alternativa, created by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat. The biting tone of the Argentine directors allowed her to sharpen a much more cynical comedic edge, far removed from the polish of her early TV work.
In 2024, she presented Linda at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is the debut feature by Mariana Wainstein, produced by Pampa Films. She played a domestic worker who exposes the everyday hypocrisy of a wealthy family in San Isidro.
Filming Linda took five weeks of technical work under a tightly controlled production that relied on static shots and long silences. In 2025, she starred in the comedy of errors Parking alongside Catalan actor Marc Clotet, and joined the cast of the prison drama En el barro.
The film Parking wrapped editing at exactly 92 minutes after cutting eighteen takes in the Buenos Aires editing room.
