Christian Convery was born in 2009 and was already in front of a professional camera before turning seven. His debut came in 2016 with the TV movie Hearts of Spring. There were no prestigious acting schools or years of theory training before his first paycheck. It was pure instinct.
And it worked.
In his early years, he landed supporting roles in productions like Legion and Lucifer. They were brief but steady appearances that taught him how a film set works long before he could solve a first-degree equation. In the Canadian industry, child actors are often treated as replaceable parts, but Convery showed an unusual ability to retain a script for his age.
In 2018, he shot Beautiful Boy alongside Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet. That shoot forced him to work with restrained drama in a highly demanding acting environment. But his name still wasn't on the lists of the major talent agencies.
The industry put him on the global map in 2021. Netflix was looking for a face that blended innocence with a touch of strangeness to star in Sweet Tooth. Convery landed the role of Gus and had to move to New Zealand for a shoot that would last several years. That project changed his status from child actor to leading star of a high-budget franchise.
But working with remote-controlled deer ear prosthetics was not easy. He had to sync his emotions with the technician operating the servos behind the cameras. So he developed an acting technique based on his gaze, which made up for the distraction of the mechanical elements on his head.
In 2023, he completely changed gears with Cocaine Bear. Directed by Elizabeth Banks, he played a boy lost in a forest stalked by a wild animal. It was a dark comedy-horror exercise that moved him away from the overly sweet image of his earlier work.
The risk was necessary.
Unlike many actors of his generation, he didn't get stuck in perfect-son roles. In 2023 he also appeared in the Netflix adaptation of One Piece, bringing the young version of Sanji to life. It was a short but strategic appearance that kept him connected to major global fan communities.
In 2024, he joined the cast of Frankenstein under the direction of Guillermo del Toro. Sharing the set with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi marked a clear step up in his professional career. Filming took place on location in Toronto and Scotland under strict secrecy about his character.
He also lent his voice to Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever in 2023. Voice work is a skill he has developed to keep working when on-set shoots stop due to scheduling or logistical issues. His ability to work solo in the booth has allowed him to diversify his income without relying on his physical image.
For The Monkey in 2025 he worked on a story by Stephen King. It is a horror production where the weight of the atmosphere rests on his ability to convey anguish with barely any dialogue. His preparation for this role therefore included physical training sessions to withstand the demands of outdoor action scenes.
Filming for this movie wrapped in March 2024 after several intense weeks of shooting in Vancouver.
