Cinthya Carmona

Cinthya Carmona is not an easy red carpet actress. In 2012, she was already knocking on the recording studio doors of California, looking for roles that moved away from the usual Latina stereotype. Her Venezuelan roots and her upbringing in New Jersey gave her a cultural duality that she knew how to leverage from her early years in the American industry.

Before landing major contracts, she trained at the Speiser/Sturges Acting Studio. There she learned that technique is the only safety net when talent falters. That discipline showed in her early appearances in series such as East Los High in 2016.

Discipline took over by chance.

The boarding school that changed the rules

In 2017, she signed with Netflix to play Sophie Cardona in Greenhouse Academy. The shoot was intense, stretching until 2020 and requiring long stretches away from home. The effort paid off, though, as the series performed well worldwide and built a solid fan base in international markets.

Sophie was not a flat character. Carmona had to work on the evolution of a young woman who went from extreme competitiveness to total vulnerability. Nearly forty episodes later, the actress decided it was time to look for stories with more edge and fewer school uniforms.

Because success in streaming can be a golden cage if you don't know how to get out in time.

The raw violence of David Ayer

In 2020, she landed the project that truly tested her physical and mental endurance. David Ayer signed her for The Tax Collector. In this crime action film, she shared the screen with Shia LaBeouf and Bobby Soto, playing Alexis Cuevas. It was a shoot marked by the raw aesthetic and gritty realism characteristic of the director of Suicide Squad.

The role demanded a force that Carmona had not shown until then. Working with Ayer requires almost military preparation, and she responded with a stage presence that held its own against the male leads. So Hollywood began to see her as more than a friendly face for teen dramas.

And the gamble paid off.

After the impact of Yesterday's film, other projects followed where action took center stage. In 2023, she took part in Ambush alongside Aaron Eckhart and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In this production set during the Vietnam War, she played Maya in a plot full of tunnels and ambushes where mud and tension were the real stars.

But Carmona has also sought out gaps in independent cinema to keep her edge in more intimate acting. In 2022, she shot Repeater under the direction of R. Ellis Frazier. In this story of hitmen and moral dilemmas, she once again showed she prefers celebrities with secrets to flawless heroic figures.

The production of Ambush had an estimated budget of 15 million dollars and was filmed mainly on location in Colombia to recreate the Asian jungle.
