Dyessa Garcia stepped onto the set of The House of Us in 2018 with the calm of someone who has known the craft inside and out. She wasn't chasing the spotlight, but she became a key piece in the machinery of a production that grossed more than 800 million pesos. Her screen presence has the necessary dryness that steers clear of the gratuitous melodrama so common in Manila cinema.
That film changed her weight in the industry.
Before shooting his scenes in Hello, Love, Goodbye during 2019, Garcia already understood that success in Philippine cinema doesn't depend on charisma alone. It depends on logistics. On that production he worked under Cathy Garcia-Molina and learned that the editing rhythm is decided on the set floor. He applied that lesson with rigor.
His move into production management and support roles was no accident. Garcia knows cinema is an industry of numbers and contracts. But he doesn't neglect the creative side, because he prefers the grit of the shoot to the glass offices of the big networks. So he began diversifying his roles to understand how a story gets financed.
In 2021 he got involved in projects aiming for a tone less eager to please the average viewer. The goal was to break away from the look of traditional romantic comedies and pursue a grittier, more direct realism.
And the gamble paid off.
During the shoot of A Very Good Girl in 2023, her name was already linked to a much darker, sharper narrative. On this project she shared the screen with Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon (the actress who surprised audiences at Cannes) and moved with ease through the codes of cynicism. The film closed its international distribution with deals in the United States and several Asian countries after its theatrical run.
Garcia's career steers clear of the story of overnight success. She builds from the ground up. In the cinema of her country, you're either useful or you disappear by the next rainy season. So she decided to be necessary in every possible area of the casting and coordination department.
Red carpets don't interest him unless there's a solid production schedule behind them.
By 2024, her schedule was filled with three mid-budget projects where cost control is the absolute priority. The latest production report from her Manila office confirms that spending per shooting day fell by 12% thanks to her direct management of locations. The contract was signed for four weeks of actual work on location.
