Emun Elliott was born in Edinburgh in 1983. His real name is Emun Mohammadi, and his roots are split between Scotland and Iran. Before stepping onto a professional stage, he studied modern languages at the University of Aberdeen. He dropped out after one year because he needed something different.
He enrolled at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he realized his look let him move between nationalities effortlessly. In 2005, he made his television debut with a small role in Monarch of the Glen. But theater was his real school during those first years in London.
It was a risky decision.
In 2011 his face reached millions of homes thanks to Game of Thrones. He played Marillion, the bard who ends up losing his tongue on Joffrey Baratheon's orders. It was a brief appearance of just four episodes. His ability to convey fear on screen opened the doors to major international productions.
Ridley Scott signed him in 2012 to play Chance in Prometheus. On that film he shared the cockpit with Idris Elba and Benedict Wong. Shortly after, he moved to period television with The Paradise, where he played John Moray over two full seasons. The pace of work at the BBC gave him the experience needed to handle long-running projects.
In 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast him as Officer Taslin Brance. It was a supporting role within Disney's machinery, but it taught him how massive-scale productions work. Despite those giant projects, Elliott has always preferred scripts with denser dramatic weight.
The public never forgot it.
The series Guilt in 2019 marked a change in how he approached his characters. He played Kenny Burns, a lawyer struggling with alcoholism who tries to rebuild his life in Edinburgh. British critics praised his restraint in handling Scottish black humor. The production won several BAFTA Awards in Scotland and ran until 2023.
In 2023, he starred in The Gold for the BBC. The series depicts the Brink's-Mat robbery of 1983, and Elliott played Detective Tony Brightwell. For the role, he had to research 1980s police methods and the social impact of the crime in London. The shoot demanded a highly precise period setting to recreate the era without slipping into caricature.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2024, he joined the cast of Sexy Beast, the television prequel to the cult film. He played Don Logan, the character that Ben Kingsley made famous years earlier. The production was shot mainly on location in Liverpool to simulate 1990s London. The series had a production budget of more than thirty million euros.
