Eugenio Siller didn't start in front of a television camera. His first real contact with show business came through music in 1998 with the band Klishé. They recorded two albums and toured much of Mexico before the project broke up due to a lack of commercial traction.
Before studying acting, he spent a season in Italy working as a runway model. That European stage taught him that his looks were a professional tool but not an end in themselves. In 2002, he returned to Mexico to enroll at Televisa's Centro de Educación Artística.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2006, he got his first major break in the third season of Rebelde. It was a supporting role that got him into the circuit of youth productions of the time. Shortly after, he starred in Código Postal, and in 2007 he led the cast of Al diablo con los guapos alongside Allison Lozz.
Telemundo set its sights on him in 2010 to lead projects in the United States. Moving his residence to Miami boosted his income and gave him greater visibility in the Latino market across North America. In 2011, he filmed Maid in Manhattan, and the series reached very high ratings in its time slot.
But the classic telenovela genre began to show signs of exhaustion in the mid-decade. Siller then decided to space out his television appearances in search of roles with greater psychological depth. In 2014, he starred in Queen of Hearts, playing an undercover agent in a plot involving espionage and diamond smuggling.
He spent two years turning down generic scripts.
During that waiting period, he moved to Los Angeles to refine his acting technique and improve his English accent. He appeared in the film Blind Trust in 2017 and actively sought a place in the on-demand streaming circuit. He knew that the way people consume content was changing irreversibly.
In 2021, Netflix cast him to play José María Lazcano in ¿Quién mató a Sara?. This project was a turning point because the series became the most-watched non-English-language show worldwide during its premiere month. The role demanded a physical and emotional preparation very different from his previous work on broadcast television.
Chema's character broke the traditional leading-man mold that had been imposed on him for years. The plot explored complex family conflicts and buried secrets that forced Siller to work in much darker registers. In 2022, he filmed the third and final season of the series, closing a chapter of massive global exposure.
The film industry also came knocking with romantic comedy offers. In 2019, he appeared in Tod@s Caen alongside Martha Higareda and Omar Chaparro. The film was one of the biggest box office hits in Mexico that fiscal year, earning more than two hundred million pesos.
His career moved toward period productions in the following years.
In 2024, he moved to Spain to take part in the shoot of El Niño Dios under director Rafa Lara. The production was set in the landscapes of Almería to recreate biblical settings with a considerable technical investment. The costume team had to make more than three hundred handcrafted tunics for the scenes filmed in the Tabernas desert.
