Her Debut Between Mats and Scripts

Hafsanur Sancaktutan was born in Istanbul in 2000. Before stepping onto a television set, she spent years practicing karate and winning medals in local competitions. That physical discipline helped her face her first shoot in 2018, when she appeared in the series Gülperi in a supporting role.

At 2019, she landed her first leading role in Aşk Ağlatır. It was a risky bet by the production company on a young face with barely any industry experience. But audiences responded positively to her performance as Ada Meryem.

The risk paid off.

During that shoot, she learned the work rhythms of Turkish television. The days often run more than twelve hours, and exhaustion tends to break novice actors. Sancaktutan got through it thanks to her sports background and a memorization ability that impressed casting directors.

The Prime Time Breakout

In 2021, her career took a major leap with Son Yaz. She played Yağmur Kara and shared scenes with more seasoned actors. Her chemistry with the rest of the cast was key to the series staying on air for two full seasons.

That same year, she received the Golden Butterfly Award for Rising Star. This award often signals who will lead productions over the next decade in Turkey. And she won it before turning twenty-two.

And then the Disney contract arrived.

In 2022, she joined the cast of Dünyayla Benim Aramda for the Disney+ platform. This production moved away from the traditional codes of free-to-air television. The script demanded scenes with much greater emotional and physical intensity than is typical of Turkish afternoon soap operas.

Sancaktutan accepted the challenge without hesitation, because she understood that her image needed to move away from the naive persona the market had assigned her at the start of her career. But her professional path was not without its hurdles.

Failures and international markets

In late 2022, she starred in Darmaduman, the Turkish adaptation of the popular American series Beverly Hills, 90210. Despite a large advertising investment, the series was canceled after just nine episodes due to low ratings.

Nobody expected that level of rejection.

In 2023, she regained audience favor with Ya Çok Seversen. She co-starred with Kerem Bürsin in a romantic comedy that was sold to more than twenty countries before its broadcast ended. The series reached notable ratings peaks in markets such as Spain and Italy thanks to its distribution on digital platforms.

Sancaktutan then decided to be more selective about her media appearances. She avoids long interviews that don't focus strictly on her character-building process. She prefers media silence unless there is a project to promote on screen.

In 2024, she began filming Siyah Kalp in the Cappadocia region. The contract stipulates an initial one-season run, subject to ratings data from the show's first month on air.
