Hande Ataizi didn't need decades for the Turkish industry to lay down at her feet. In 1996, she won the Golden Orange for Best Actress for her role in Mum Kokulu Kadınlar. That early recognition set the pattern for the rest of her career.
She studied at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. That technical training helped her survive the whirlwind of television fame in the late nineties. In Turkey, celebrity can be a double-edged sword without a solid foundation behind it.
She decided that theater would be her refuge.
With the arrival of Ruhsar in 1998, her face became everywhere. The series blended fantasy and comedy in a format that broke ratings records at the time. Ataizi handled that success with a mix of distance and professional ambition.
But prestige doesn't always go hand in hand with popularity. For years, the tabloid press tried to overshadow her work with empty controversies. She kept her creative drive alive on stage while waiting for scripts worthy of her academic training.
In 2021, the project Camdaki Kız gave her the place she deserved in large-scale fiction. Playing Cana Yalçın was an exercise in restraint. She wasn't the sole lead in the credits, but she was the driving force behind many of the plot's conflicts.
Filming for that series was intense and lasted three seasons. So when her commitment ended, Ataizi looked for something that would be a direct break from her previous image. She wanted a character with the weight of a classical tragedy.
The risk came with a name of its own.
In 2023 she accepted the challenge of starring in Bihter for a digital streaming platform. Playing Firdevs Yöreoğlu was a dangerous gamble, because Turkish audiences still had the original series version very much in mind. She opted for an almost architectural coldness in her gestures and a much darker gaze.
The film was shot with a carefully crafted period look. The costume design and art direction aimed for an oppressive atmosphere that Ataizi made the most of. It was a production that cost several million Turkish lira and divided the country's specialized critics.
In 2024, she joined the cast of Taş Kağıt Makas as Süreyya Yalçınkaya. Her contract required full availability for outdoor shoots under harsh weather conditions. The series closed its first production phase with a tight budget and a technical crew of more than one hundred people.
