Heaven Peralejo entered the house of Pinoy Big Brother in 2016 at sixteen years old and left with a label that took five years to shake off. Filipino audiences embraced her as the girl next door, a friendly face for free-to-air television that fit the mold of broadcaster ABS-CBN. But the entertainment industry in Manila is a meat grinder that demands more than a symmetrical smile to survive her first contract.
And she decided she didn't want to be just a pretty face.
During her first years in the business, she built a run of supporting roles in series such as Sana Dalawa ang Puso and Pamilya Ko. These were characters designed not to stand out, satellites orbiting the big stars of the moment, which let her learn the craft through long hours on set. In 2020, she got the chance to lead the cast of Bagong Umaga, a drama shot under difficult conditions due to global health restrictions.
That shoot was an endurance training.
The celebrity press in her country tried to devour her when her personal life made headlines well beyond her acting roles. There was media noise and scrutiny that would have sunk any other public figure of her generation. But Peralejo used that noise to rebuild her image through maturity and selective silence in front of the microphones.
Her technical turning point came with Nanahimik ang Gabi, a suspense thriller in which she played a woman trapped in a dangerous secret relationship. It was a risky bet because it broke away from the sweet image her fans expected from her. At the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival, the industry stopped seeing her as a reality show contestant and started treating her as a serious actress.
She won Best Actress at the 2023 summer edition for this role.
That statuette changed her fees and the kind of calls her agent received. They were no longer looking for the naive girl from romantic comedies, but for a woman capable of carrying dramatic tension opposite veterans like Ian Veneracion. So she used the momentum to move her projects toward streaming and film, with greater creative freedom.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2023, she starred in The Rain in España, an adaptation of a Wattpad novel that racked up millions of views on the Viva One platform. The success of this youth series confirmed her commercial appeal with Gen Z, but she was already looking toward the business side. She began studying business management because she knows that in the Philippines an actress's career has an expiration date if she doesn't control her own contracts.
She shot Fruitcake and the Filipino version of the Korean film Sunny in 2024.
Her per-project fee multiplied after critical acclaim, and her social media following surpassed four million active profiles. Peralejo signed an exclusivity contract that allows her to choose only two major productions a year to avoid burning out her image. The production of Nanahimik ang Gabi cost approximately 15 million Philippine pesos and multiplied that investment through its international distribution.
