Jean-Luc Bilodeau spent nine years of childhood in front of competitive dance mirrors before stepping onto a film set. He wasn't chasing Hollywood fame when he went to his first auditions in Canada. But in 2004 he landed a small role in Ill Fated, and the machine started rolling without brakes.
His big break came in 2006 with the premiere of Kyle XY. For three seasons he played Josh Trager, and audiences connected with his sarcastic yet vulnerable teenager persona. That role gave him visibility on ABC Family until the series was canceled in 2009.
No one expected a dancer from Vancouver to end up leading a sitcom.
In 2012, Bilodeau's career took a big step into multi-camera sitcoms with Baby Daddy. Playing Ben Wheeler meant a five-year commitment across six seasons that ended in 2017. It was a job that demanded physical endurance and memorizing weekly scripts in front of a live audience.
TV paychecks also allowed him to choose his next steps more wisely.
He appeared in exactly 100 episodes of the series. That number is the threshold of success in American television because it makes long-term syndication possible. During that time he also tried his luck in mainstream film with Piranha 3DD in 2012 and in horror with Trick 'r Treat.
After leaving teen comedies behind, Bilodeau looked for roles with more dramatic weight. In 2019 he joined the cast of Carol's Second Act alongside Patricia Heaton, playing a first-year medical resident. The series lasted only one season, but it gave audiences a look at him in a professional setting, far from diapers and high school drama.
The change of pace was permanent.
By 2024, the actor had joined the cast of The Way Home as Del. This Hallmark Channel production uses time travel as its narrative engine, and Bilodeau fits a much calmer, more mature tone. His presence in the second season of this series confirms that his profile remains relevant in the Canadian and American industries.
Filming for the new episodes took place in Ontario locations during the winter.
