Jonas Holdenrieder was born in Munich on November 26, 1999. There were no big fanfares or promises of instant stardom in his first steps in front of the camera. He started out like so many other kids in local productions (barely an extra with a few lines), but with a look that already suggested something more than simple child-star cuteness.
His real debut came in 2011 with a small role in Lollipop Monster. That experience taught him that film was not a game of carefree afternoons. While his schoolmates thought about soccer or video games, he was already memorizing set marks.
Play became a profession before adolescence.
In 2012 he landed the project that brought him visibility in the German mainstream market. He played Ludo in Die Vampirschwestern (Die Vampirschwestern) and reprised the role in the two sequels shot in 2014 and 2016. It was a period of technical learning in which the camera stopped being something strange and became part of his daily routine.
Many young actors settle for the pull of youth franchises, but Holdenrieder chose to hold back. He knew intuition has its limits. So he sought refuge at the prestigious Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich to give his performance a more solid and less instinctive structure.
During that period of training, he stayed out of the commercial spotlight. He focused on theater and on understanding the mechanics of classic drama. That decision was the key to avoiding the oblivion that so often consumes child stars once they turn twenty.
His academic training changed everything.
In 2017, he took part in Godless and began taking on projects with far greater dramatic weight. He was no longer the blond kid from family comedies. But his true leap toward complex characters came with his entry into high-budget television productions that demanded a maturity, both physical and mental, that few of his generation possessed at the time.
The year 2021 was pivotal for his career. He appeared in the series Faking Hitler, which dramatized the scandal of the dictator's forged diaries. That job allowed him to share scenes with established figures of German cinema and prove he could sustain narrative tension in historical suspense plots.
In 2022, he starred in Rumspringa for a global streaming platform. In this film he played a young Amish man who travels to Berlin to discover the outside world before deciding his religious future. The role demanded a delicate balance between absolute naivety and personal discovery without falling into an easy caricature.
The international market came knocking on his door in 2023.
That year he joined the cast of The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (Seven Kings Must Die). Taking part in a British production of this scale meant a major shift in technical and logistical scale. He had to adapt his way of working to the demands of international shoots, where schedules are more aggressive and competition is fierce.
In 2024, he shot the drama Haltlos under the direction of Kida Khodr Ramadan. In this film he faced a stark, direct script that moved away from any previous visual artifice. The production was filmed entirely on location in Germany and had a budget of 3.5 million euros funded by regional funds.
By the end of 2024, the actor had settled permanently in Berlin to make it easier to travel to the Babelsberg studios.
