From the Runway to Controlling the Narrative

Kamie Crawford won the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2010. She was the first representative from Maryland to do so after years of training at local academies. That victory worked less like a simple trophy on a shelf and more like the first step in a well-planned media strategy.

She studied communications at Howard University, where she came to understand that public image is an asset that requires technical management, not just charisma in front of the spotlight. But her real interest was in reality television with an analytical approach.

In 2018, MTV was looking to revamp its flagship show after Max Joseph's departure. Crawford joined as a guest host for the seventh season of Catfish: The TV Show. Her style was direct and lacked the usual people-pleasing of other TV personalities of the era.

Her ability to spot lies on screen transformed the dynamics of the show. In 2020, the network named her permanent co-host alongside Nev Schulman. The change brought in a gender and race perspective that the format needed to survive declining ratings.

Audiences connected with her brutal honesty.

During filming of the seasons shot between 2020 and 2022, Crawford broke away from the traditional script. She preferred logical confrontation with suspects over manufactured drama. As a result, the show maintained competitive ratings in a market saturated by streaming.

Expansion and Platform Deals

In 2023, her career took a leap into producing and solo hosting for Paramount+. She signed an exclusive deal to host the ninth season of Are You The One?, filmed in Gran Canaria. The project called for a more authoritative and less empathetic style of hosting than her previous work.

That same year, she took over as host of the American version of Ex on the Beach. The industry chose her for her profile as a mediator capable of managing conflict at high intensity without losing narrative momentum. In 2023 television, the host is no longer a mere talking head but an engine of the storyline.

Beyond the television studio, she launched the podcast Relationsh*t. In it, she analyzes relationship dynamics from a technical and psychological perspective. The project reached the top spots on lifestyle charts in the United States through an initial independent distribution.

In 2024, she renewed her contracts to continue working on competition reality TV formats. Viewership of her shows on digital platforms exceeded two million viewers per episode in key markets. Her current productions are primarily filmed at studios in Los Angeles and at fixed international locations.
