Karol Itzitery Piña Cisneros was born in Mexico City in 1999. She started in advertising at age six and soon moved on to shows like La rosa de Guadalupe. But her life changed completely in 2015, when Disney Channel was casting the lead for a new teen drama centered on skating.
At that point, she had to choose between the comfort of home or moving to Buenos Aires for a project nobody knew would work.
She chose risk.
To play Luna Valente, she had to learn to skate professionally in record time. It wasn't just acting in front of a camera. There were twelve-hour shooting days followed by intense physical training.
The series Soy Luna premiered in 2016 and became a sales phenomenon. For three seasons, it drove a commercial machine that filled stadiums across Europe and Latin America. But the success brought crushing pressure for a teenager living far from home.
In 2018, the series ended and the real battle to find a personal identity began.
Many child actors fade away once the spotlight leaves the big franchises. But she decided her career wouldn't end with her skates tucked away in a closet.
Because the Mexican market is demanding with anyone trying to make a comeback after years away.
She signed with the agency OCESA Seitrack and later with Warner Music Mexico to launch her music as a solo artist. Her style aimed to move away from manufactured pop and toward more urban, personal rhythms. In 2021, she released the single Tus Besos, which reached the top spots on radio charts in several Latin American countries.
It wasn't a straight path.
She had to break contracts and reshape her public image so producers would stop seeing her as a little girl. In 2024, she released Lumbre, a project that explored a much more mature side, far removed from the colorful aesthetic of her early days.
In 2024, she starred in the movie Quite Like Paradise alongside Miguel Rodarte and Esmeralda Pimentel. This co-production between Mexico, Italy and the United States marked her definitive breakthrough into big-screen films. She played Teresa Rondia, a dark, complex character that had nothing to do with the innocence of her earlier projects.
That same year, she voiced the animated film Gigantes.
This animated film had a budget of 12 million dollars and was distributed in more than 20 countries.
