Koratala Siva spent almost a decade in the shadows before someone put their name on a directing credit. For years they worked as a dialogue writer for others, polishing lines that other actors later delivered on screen. In 2013 they convinced Prabhas to star in Mirchi, and the result changed their standing in the Hyderabad film industry.
That film grossed more than 800 million rupees worldwide. It was a straightforward, no-nonsense hit that allowed him to choose his next step without outside pressure. But Siva did not want to make generic action movies, because his real interest lay in the social weight of the story.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2015 he directed Srimanthudu starring Mahesh Babu. The plot revolved around a millionaire who decides to adopt an entire village to improve the lives of its residents. Siva managed to give a purely commercial proposal a political undertone that struck a deep chord with Indian audiences.
The director repeated the formula in 2018 with Bharat Ane Nenu. This time he set the action in the government of Andhra Pradesh, with a story about the responsibility of public office. His screenplays tend to follow a rigid pattern in which a hero with unshakable moral values faces a corrupt system.
Siva writes his own scripts and rarely accepts outside suggestions on screenplay structure. He prefers to control the pace of the storytelling from the first draft to the final cut in the editing room. As a result, his films tend to run nearly three hours but maintain constant tension.
The industry has no patience for boredom.
In 2022 the director suffered his first major critical and financial setback with the release of Acharya. Despite featuring two of the biggest stars of Telugu cinema, Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, the project failed to connect with audiences. Critics pointed out that the script was predictable and that the production had dragged on for too long due to logistical delays.
This failure forced Siva to rethink his working methodology for his next contracts. He took a period of silence to rewrite his creative processes and step away from the media noise of social networks. The filmmaker lost much of his personal capital on the distribution of that movie due to the compensation agreements he signed with exhibitors.
But his credibility in commercial cinema is restored with a single hit.
In 2024 she returned to the set for Devara: Part 1, a massive production split into two installments starring Jr NTR in the lead role. Filming took place on natural locations and large studios in Hyderabad with a budget that exceeded 3,000 million rupees. The story focuses on conflicts in the coastal regions and marks the debut of Bollywood actors in the Southern market.
Siva coordinates teams of more than five hundred people on the busiest days on the film set. His directing style is technical and not very open to improvisation by actors during action takes. Editing the first part of this saga required six months of post-production to integrate computer-generated visual effects.
The film closed its international rights presale for a record figure before hitting theaters.
