Leo Woodall was born in 1996 in Hammersmith, London, into a family steeped in acting. His father is the actor Andrew Woodall, and his stepfather also works in the industry. His mother trained at a drama school but chose not to pursue the profession.
But the young Woodall wasn't sure of his path at first. As a teenager, he preferred sports and considered a career in fitness training. Everything changed at age 19 after watching an episode of the series Peaky Blinders.
That's when he decided he wanted to be in front of the camera.
He trained at the Arts Educational Schools in London and graduated in 2019. His first steps were modest but steady. He appeared in an episode of the medical drama Holby City and starred in a short film titled Man Down. At the time, no one suspected that this laid-back young man would end up topping the most-searched lists online.
In 2021, he landed a small role in the movie Cherry, directed by the Russo brothers. It was a brief experience, but it gave him a close look at how a major Hollywood production worked. Shortly after, he joined the series Vampire Academy, filmed in Spain in 2022.
His real breakout came with the second season of The White Lotus in 2022. Woodall played Jack, a young man from Essex who arrives in Sicily with irresistible charm and a murky past. His ability to blend vulnerability with menace immediately caught the attention of international critics.
Many viewers believed his accent was real and that his past was as chaotic as his character's. But Woodall is a middle-class Londoner who knows how to build very convincing personas.
The industry didn't take long to react.
In 2024, he took on the challenge of starring in One Day, the television adaptation of David Nicholls' novel. He played Dexter Mayhew across two decades of his life. The chemistry with his co-star was the driving force behind a series that drew more than 15 million views in its first month on air.
Despite the media noise, Woodall keeps a healthy distance from fame. He rarely shares details of his private life and prefers to focus on choosing scripts that move away from the traditional leading-man archetype. Because he knows that good looks are a resource that runs out if there's no substance underneath.
In 2025, he joined the shoot of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy to play a key character in the protagonist's new chapter. That same year, he filmed the conspiracy thriller Prime Target for a streaming platform, where he plays a young mathematician.
Filming for this last production took place mainly on locations in London and Cambridge under strict confidentiality measures.
His contract for upcoming productions includes exclusivity clauses that limit his appearances in conventional advertising. Woodall prefers that his face be associated only with fictional stories. His pay for participating in large-scale projects is estimated at six figures per episode, according to British industry standards in 2025.
