Nobody can sit through a forty-minute close-up without having something very specific to sell. María Pombo Ribó was born in Madrid in October 1994 and learned the craft of public image long before video-on-demand platforms took over Spanish television. Her entry into the industry didn't come through auteur cinema or traditional dramatic fiction. It came when networks realized her private life was worth more than most state-funded scripts.

The business was always calculated naturalness.

In early 2012, she began sharing photos without any great technical ambitions on social media. That youthful hobby quickly turned into business ventures registered under her name, such as the textile firm Tipi Tent in 2015 and Name The Brand in 2019. So her move into corporate audiovisual content was an inevitable consequence of her business volume.

From vertical screens to home prime time

Linear television sought her out to rejuvenate its audiences. She took part as a contestant in the second season of The Edge aired by Antena 3 in 2022, and made repeated visits to late-night talk shows, where her poise in front of the teleprompter caught the attention of casting directors. Her profile fit perfectly with the new demands of family entertainment.

And the big break came quickly. In November 2023, Prime Video premiered the first season of Pombo, a documentary series developed in direct collaboration with Komodo Studio and Mediaset España. The project ditched closed sets to follow its star through her daily routines, using fixed cinematic lenses and high-fidelity direct sound.

The production team recorded more than two hundred hours of home footage to edit just four forty-five-minute episodes per season.

And the formula blew past the viewing metrics of the streaming service.

The docureality factory with no filter from the set

During 2024, the second and third installments of the production arrived, directed by technical crews trained in street reporting. The series never pretended to fool anyone with auteur tricks. Its dramatic fuel came from recording the conflicts of a large family amid moves, births, and the multiple sclerosis diagnosis that the Madrid-born star made public in 2020.

Because the real market value lay in monetizing vulnerability without losing advertising appeal. Each episode worked like a style catalog where real life blurred into product placement. The production company guaranteed a minimum level of profitability thanks to the three million followers as a captive audience that Pombo brought with her from her digital profiles.

But filming nonstop took a toll on her marriage to her husband, Pablo Castellano. Cameras captured couple arguments, medical visits, and moments of exhaustion that editors rationed in the edit suite to keep the narrative tension high.

The business behind the viewfinder

Between 2024 and 2025, filming for the fourth and fifth seasons took the crew from villages in Cantabria to Caribbean hotels. Directors such as Juan Pablo Cofré and Nerea Crespo had to coordinate shoots lasting up to ten months straight to capture the final footage. During that expansion phase, the budget per episode exceeded that of several daytime dramas thanks to financial backing from international distributors.

Controlling the final cut is what separates being an actress from owning the format.

For the sixth installment, commissioned at the end of 2026, Komodo Studio deployed a crew of eight camera operators working simultaneously and three direct sound units equipped with digital wideband lavalier microphones.
