Mercedes Lambre auditioned for a youth series without suspecting that she would spend three years as the most hated villain on television. She was 19 years old. In 2012, the children's entertainment market changed its rules with the premiere of Violetta.
That production was more than just a television show. It was a machine of world tours and platinum records. Lambre played Ludmila Ferro. Crowds shouted her name in stadiums across Europe while she struggled to come to terms with her private life vanishing.
Fame came on suddenly, like a thunderclap.
In 2016, she filmed Tini: The Violetta Changes on location in Italy. It marked the definitive end of a four-year stretch of nonstop work. But the transition was not easy, because the stigma attached to mass-market entertainment often follows those who try to change direction.
The actress decided to hit the brakes. Before accepting any commercial offer, she chose to return to the basics of her craft in Buenos Aires. She needed to step away from the spotlight to figure out what kind of performer she wanted to be outside the multinational entertainment machine.
In 2017, she performed in the play Cardenio under the direction of Patricio Orozco. The production was based on lost texts by Shakespeare and Cervantes. The project let her regain control of her vocal and physical technique, far from prefabricated choreography.
Then came her role in Heidi, bienvenida a casa between 2017 and 2019. She played Emma in a story that aimed for a more fantastical tone. But her real interest was shifting toward producing and writing scripts that explored the psychology of characters.
Theater gave her back the stability that television had taken away.
In 2022, she was part of the cast of the film Yo, traidor. She shared the bill with Mariano Martínez in a drama with political and social overtones. It was a supporting role, but it allowed critics to see an actress capable of carrying high-tension scenes without relying on artifice.
Between 2023 and 2024, she starred in the stage comedy Es solo sexo. The play sold out tickets on Corrientes Avenue for several consecutive seasons. The script delved into couples' taboos and open relationships with direct, unfiltered language.
As a result, her name began to resonate in more mature production circles. In 2023, she also took part in the series Planners for a global streaming platform. There she played Casandra in a high-society setting involving luxury event planning.
Artistic risk outweighed the fear of being forgotten.
In 2025, she premiered El jardín de las delicias. It is an experimental stage piece that aggressively sets out to break the fourth wall. Lambre now chooses her projects with a calm she didn't have at twenty, when contracts were signed for three-year terms.
In 2026, she signed on to an independent co-production that will be shot entirely on interior sets in the city of Rosario. The art department's budget is 45,000 euros. Filming is scheduled to last exactly five weeks.
