The Apprenticeship in the Shadows

Mert Ramazan Demir was born in 1998 in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul. He is the youngest of five siblings and grew up in a environment where acting was not a family priority. During his training years, he focused on Dialog Anlatım İletişim, a school where he polished a diction that is now his greatest weapon.

At first, he wasn't looking for the spotlight. In fact, he intended to train as a director and screenwriter because he was more interested in the overall creative process than public exposure. But his looks and an especially expressive gaze eventually pushed him toward auditions for advertising and television.

The camera wanted him more than he wanted her.

In 2020, he took part in the series Çıplak and shortly after in Öğretmen. These jobs helped him understand the pace of the Turkish industry, which is exhausting and has no patience for technical mistakes. In Turkey, competition is fierce, and actors who can't handle 16-hour workdays quickly disappear from the scene.

The breakout of 2022

The project that blew his anonymity wide open was Yalı Çapkını, which premiered in 2022. In this production, he plays Ferit Korhan, a young man from a wealthy family who lives under the weight of tradition and his grandfather's expectations. The series was such a massive hit that exports of the title reached more than 40 countries in under two years.

Then came the Turkish phenomenon.

The chemistry with his co-star, Afra Saraçoğlu, fueled tabloid covers in Istanbul for months. But Demir kept a low profile and avoided sharing details about his private life in promotional interviews. As a result, his public image remained tied almost exclusively to his acting work rather than behind-the-scenes scandals.

In 2022, he also starred in the film UFO for a streaming platform. In this movie, he played a young illegal street racer, a role that demanded specific physical training and moved him away from the classic leading-man image he had been given.

The Mystique of Sahmaran

In 2023, he joined the cast of Şahmaran, a fantasy and mythology bet that broke with the realism typical of Turkish series. Here, he shared the screen with Serenay Sarıkaya. Filming took place in arid locations in Adana and forced the crew to work under extreme weather conditions for several weeks.

The media noise did not change his method.

For Demir, the key to his work lies in constantly observing ordinary people on the streets of Istanbul. He doesn't rely on overly theoretical acting techniques. He prefers instinct and immediate reaction to whatever happens in front of him during the take.

In 2024, filming the third season of Yalı Çapkını took up more than ten months of his work schedule. His exclusivity contract with the production company OGM Pictures limits his appearances in other domestic media until the project wraps.
