In 2021, Mimî M. Khayisa decided to take her grandfather's surname for her professional career. It was a bold move in an industry that tends to favor short, easy-to-market names for global audiences. Until then, audiences knew her in the credits as Mimî Ndiweni.
She was born in London in 1991 and grew up in a home where her parents' cultural heritage was always present. Her training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama gave her the tools to tackle the most demanding classical texts. Her foundation has always been the technical study of the word.
In 2013, she won the Spotlight Award.
This award put her ahead of students from twenty other top British drama schools. It also led the Royal Shakespeare Company to sign her for its productions in Stratford-upon-Avon. There, she learned that silence on stage can be more powerful than a shout.
Filming The Witcher in 2019 radically changed her work routine. Playing Fringilla Vigo required a physical restraint that often clashed with her previous theater training. But the series premiere in 2019 and its later seasons exponentially increased her visibility in international markets.
And the gamble paid off.
Before this project, Khayisa had already worked on large studio sets. In 2015, she took part in the version of Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh, and in 2019 she had a role as a Resistance officer in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. These jobs gave her an insider's understanding of the scale of major franchises.
In 2018, she joined the cast of Black Earth Rising. This miniseries by Hugo Blick demanded a much rawer dramatic register, closely tied to African geopolitical realities. It was a necessary contrast to the fantasy worlds that dominate much of her streaming television work.
Her work on British television includes titles such as Doctor Who in 2017 and Mr Selfridge in 2016. On each of these sets, Khayisa has maintained a preparation discipline based on analyzing pauses and rhythm. She does not improvise unless there is a strong narrative reason to do so during the take.
Classical training remains her foundation.
Despite her constant presence on screen, she has never left stage theater behind. In 2017, she played Cordelia in King Lear for the Royal Shakespeare Company, in a production that was filmed for cinema distribution. Throughout 2023 and 2024, she has continued exploring projects that combine physical acting with voice work in high-budget video games.
In 2021, Khayisa signed with the representation agency United Agents in London to manage her expansion into Europe and the United States. Her contract for the Geralt of Rivia saga ended after filming on location in Hungary and Poland with a crew of more than two hundred people per production unit.
