The weight of the surname in Ankara

Naz Çağla Irmak was born in 1997, with her destiny practically written in the dressing rooms. The daughter of actress Hülya Gülşen Irmak, she grew up watching how characters were built from the ground up. But she didn't simply inherit a contact or a way of seeing things. She studied in the theater department of Pera Fine Arts High School, where she learned that technique is the only thing that survives once the spotlights go out.

Her first real break came with the series Bizim Evin Halleri. It was a small role, almost a dress rehearsal for what was to come. On that shoot, she learned that punctuality and respect for the crew matter just as much as a good performance.

It was a quiet learning process.

In 2015, her life changed with a casting call looking for profiles for a long-running teen drama. It was Kırgın Çiçekler, a production that stayed on air until 2018 with a total of 113 episodes. Irmak played Kader, a young woman abandoned in an orphanage who carried the emotional weight of the main storyline.

The Orphan Phenomenon

The series worked because audiences connected with the vulnerability of her character. Over those three years, the actress had to manage sudden fame that spread beyond Turkey's borders. She did so while keeping a low profile in the gossip press, focusing exclusively on her fourteen-hour shooting days.

After the series ended in 2018, she looked for projects that would take her away from teen drama. That same year, she appeared in the film Çakallarla Dans 5 to try her luck in film comedy. It was a smart move to shake off her image as a TV victim and show that she could handle different rhythms.

But the real professional challenge was yet to come.

In 2021, she accepted the lead role in Demir Kadın: Neslican. The film tells the story of Neslican Tay, a young Turkish woman who became a symbol of resistance against cancer. For this role, the actress shaved her head completely on camera, refusing to use prosthetics or digital effects to add authenticity to the shot.

Biographical Films and Maturity

The shoot was physically and emotionally exhausting. Irmak spent months studying Tay's videos and speeches so she wouldn't fall into cheap imitation. The production suffered several delays due to the global health crisis, but it finally hit theaters in January 2023. Critics praised her ability to convey strength without resorting to the easy sentimentality that tends to weigh down these biopics.

And the industry took notice.

In 2022, she joined the cast of Tuzak, a revenge thriller in which she played Ceren. Here she made a radical shift in register, embodying a more mature and sophisticated woman. Irmak understands that longevity in Turkish cinema depends on not getting stuck in the same archetype of the long-suffering daughter.

During 2023, she worked on the series Bambaşka Biri as Nuray. In this production she shared the screen with powerful names from the international circuit such as Hande Erçel. The series explored themes of mental health and unsolved crimes, allowing her to bring darker nuances to her performance.

In 2024, the actress returned to the stage in the play West Side Story, playing Anita. The production demands extreme physical preparation and vocal control that television rarely requires. The play closed its first season with more than 40 performances across venues in Istanbul and Ankara.

Her contract for her next television production includes a six-month exclusivity clause.
