Park Ji-hu was 14 years old when she convinced director Kim Bo-ra that she should play the lead in House of Hummingbird. She didn't need big gestures or overwrought dialogue. Her gaze alone conveyed the loneliness of a teenage girl in 1990s Seoul.
In 2018, the release of this independent film put her on the map at international festivals before she had even finished high school. She won the Best Actress award at the Tribeca Film Festival, and she did it competing against actresses who had decades more experience and training.
That was the start of something different.
But Park Ji-hu did not take the easy route of teen romantic comedies after that recognition. They preferred to keep a low profile while finishing their mandatory studies in Daegu. Their priority was always to build a solid technical foundation before diving into South Korea's commercial film industry.
In 2022, the zombie series All of Us Are Dead made her a massive star. Her performance as Nam On-jo drew mixed reviews for seeming emotionless in moments of extreme danger. But time proved her minimalist approach right. She decided her character should stay in a state of permanent shock instead of crying in a choreographed way.
And the gamble paid off.
That same 2022, she joined the cast of Little Women alongside Kim Go-eun and Nam Ji-hyun. Playing Oh In-hye required an almost surgical coldness as she portrayed a young artist who rejects her sisters' love in pursuit of her own destiny. Chung Seo-kyung's script demanded verbal precision, which Park Ji-hu delivered flawlessly across the production's twelve episodes.
In 2023, they appeared in the disaster film Concrete Utopia. They worked under Um Tae-hwa on a set that simulated an apartment complex after a devastating earthquake. The shoot was physically exhausting due to the freezing temperatures and the emotional weight of the scenes.
By 2024, she had landed the lead role in the adaptation of the webtoon Spirit Fingers. In this project, she plays Song Hye-yeon, a young woman who discovers her identity through a drawing club. The role marked a shift in tone toward a brighter story after several years of projects defined by survival and trauma.
Their academic work at Hanyang University remains a priority between filming periods.
Production on the second season of All of Us Are Dead set its main shooting schedule for late 2024, with a budget exceeding seventy million dollars.
