Enrique Martín Morales arrived in Mexico City at nineteen with the momentum of someone who survived the military-style discipline of a youth band. In 1991, he joined the cast of the telenovela Alcanzar una estrella II, and there he understood that his image generated profits that went well beyond music. The Latin American market embraced him as the perfect face for mass consumption, but he was already looking north.
In 1994, he played Miguel Morez on the daily drama General Hospital. That role as a waiter with artistic aspirations helped him enter American homes without making much noise. It was a strategy of gradual wear rather than a stroke of luck. The network's producers at ABC wanted a profile that would attract Hispanic audiences without alienating the average viewer in Ohio.
And the gamble paid off.
The record industry seized that gap to launch his global offensive in 1999. During that year's Grammy Awards, he gave a performance that upended Sony Music's sales forecasts for the following decade. There was nothing subtle about that move. It was about selling a polished, explosive version of Latin pop that became a Swiss watch on international charts.
After years of touring the world and selling platinum records, he decided his career needed a different kind of validation. In 2012, he returned to Broadway stages to play Che in the revival of Evita. New York critics expected a marketing product but found an actor who commanded timing and breath on stage. That period allowed him to move away from the caricature of a sex symbol that the media had fueled during the nineties.
But the real change of pace came in 2018. Ryan Murphy recruited him for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, where he played Antonio D’Amico. On this shoot, he had to face scenes of a dramatic weight he had never explored in front of a camera. The scene in which he finds the designer's body in front of his Miami mansion earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Working under Murphy forced him to bare himself emotionally in an almost aggressive way.
In 2010, he published his memoir titled Yo. In its pages, he recounted the process of building an identity that for a long time was held hostage by confidentiality agreements and brand demands. The book worked as a professional cleanse. From that moment on, his projects began to be chosen based on narrative quality rather than just commercial impact.
In 2024, he joined the cast of the series Palm Royale for Apple TV+. In this production, he plays Robert, a waiter hiding secrets at an exclusive club in Palm Beach during the 1960s. Sharing a script with actresses such as Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern posed a major technical challenge, given the sharp, satirical comedic tone that the direction of Tate Taylor demanded.
And that was no coincidence.
His training in method acting and his previous theater experience allowed him to hold his own alongside a veteran cast. The series was shot mainly on location in Los Angeles and Florida, with a production design that exceeded five million dollars per episode. The contract for this show included specific clauses on the use of his image and his involvement in the season's original soundtrack.
