Rob Kerkovich landed in New Orleans with a suitcase and a contract that seemed like any other. He wasn't looking to become the action hero of American television. But his performance as Sebastian Lund in NCIS: New Orleans kept him on screen from 2014 to 2021 without interruption.
Seven consecutive seasons on air are a milestone of physical and mental endurance.
Before the corpses and DNA tests came sketch comedy. He was part of the group The Midnight Show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles. There he learned that comedy is a matter of milliseconds and that a mistimed gesture can ruin any scene.
Rhythm is his sharpest tool.
In 2008, he appeared in Cloverfield as one of the partygoers at the film's opening party. It was a small role, but it taught him how a massive-budget blockbuster works before he moved on to supporting roles in CSI: NY and Modern Family.
His work as a screenwriter often goes unnoticed because of his on-screen fame. In 2012, he actively contributed to the writers' room of the comedy Happy Endings. There he brought a sharp perspective that he later carried into building his own dramatic characters.
Because writing lets him control the chaos of the industry from the other side.
During the production years of his main series, Kerkovich settled in Louisiana. He fully embraced the local culture to avoid the parachute actor syndrome. He took part in community events and used his visibility to support independent film festivals in the area.
In 2022, he voiced several characters in the Disney Channel animated series Chibiverse. It was a return to his more theatrical roots after years held back by the rigor of a police drama. In 2023, he shot the short film The Last Movie Ever Made under the direction of Nathan Blackwell.
He has never been a typical Method actor.
He prefers the naturalness of someone who arrives on set with the lines learned and a joke pitch for the director. So his move toward smaller-scale projects after the end of his contract with CBS was a logical step to regain creative freedom.
In 2024, his work focused on developing audio fiction and podcast projects.
Filming of his latest episode in the naval franchise wrapped with a grueling 14-hour technical shoot on location, under 80 percent humidity.
