Sara Soulié was born in Denmark in 1987, but her identity belongs to that blurry border between Nordic and Mediterranean. She is the daughter of a Finnish ballet dancer and a French professor. That genetic mix explains why she handles five languages with the same ease she moves between social drama and action thriller.
Dance was her first grammar.
She studied at the Helsinki Theatre Academy, where she learned that the body communicates more than the text. But she didn't stop at the stage. Her move to film was a natural transition, driven by a gaze the camera loves for its ability to convey coldness and tenderness at the same time.
Before moving into professional film, she spent years honing her craft with experimental theater companies in Scandinavia. In 2010, she began landing short films that caught the attention of the Finnish industry for her natural presence on camera.
In 2017, she appeared in The Other Side of Hope under the direction of Aki Kaurismäki. Working with the Finnish director means entering a world of silences and static framing where every gesture counts. Soulié played a dancer in one of the scenes that capture the filmmaker's dry style.
And that experience gave her the ultimate international passport.
Before reaching that point, she had already proven her strength in the series Nymphs in 2014. That urban fantasy production was a successful export that put her on the radar of European casting directors. But she preferred to keep alternating commercial projects with much riskier art-house pieces.
Shooting in five different languages became her routine throughout the 2010s. She speaks Finnish, Swedish, French, Danish and English (and holds her own in German and Spanish), which lets her move from a production in Paris to a shoot in Copenhagen without needing dubbing.
In 2012, she starred in Daughter of a Rifleman, a project exploring the aftermath of the Finnish Civil War. It was one of her most physically demanding and raw performances to date.
In 2022, she led the cast of the series Transport, playing an insurance inspector caught up in an illegal horse-trafficking plot. It is a tough role that demands exhausting physical restraint. Critics praised her ability to hold long close-ups without blinking.
Because Sara Soulié isn't chasing on-screen beauty but the truth of the character.
In 2024, she joined the big-budget production Conflict, which explores geopolitical tensions in the Baltic Sea. She plays Annika Berg, a military officer who must make life-or-death decisions in a hybrid warfare setting. The shoot required specific training to handle real weapons in extreme weather conditions.
Her schedule for 2025 includes taking part in the new TV adaptation of The Girl Who Played with Fire, based on Stieg Larsson's universe. The project has a budget of 15 million euros per season and is filmed mainly on location in Stockholm.
The series is produced by Yellow Bird and will be distributed through Netflix in more than 190 countries.
