Stephanie Jacobsen was born in Hong Kong, but her career took shape on the coasts of Australia. At twelve, she moved to Sydney, where she began a career that many today associate with the fantasy genre. Her first major role came in 2001 with Home and Away. She played Charlotte Adams for a couple of years.
It was her real school.
That shoot taught her the discipline of daily television before she made the leap to the United States. Long-running Australian productions move at an exhausting pace and leave no room for technical mistakes. In 2003, she decided to leave the series to pursue other kinds of roles in the international market.
International audiences really discovered her in 2007. That was the year she put on the uniform of Kendra Shaw for the TV movie Battlestar Galactica: Razor. Her portrayal of an officer tormented by impossible moral choices earned her the respect of the franchise's fans.
And the science fiction niche has embraced her forever.
Shortly after, she joined the cast of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles in 2008. She played Jesse Flores, a resistance fighter traveling from a post-apocalyptic future. In this production, she showed she could carry complex storylines without losing her dramatic edge alongside names with more weight in the industry.
But mainstream recognition remained elusive outside genre circles.
In 2009, she tried to break into the mainstream commercial market with the return of Melrose Place. The network The CW was looking to repeat the success of other '90s franchises. Jacobsen played Lauren Yung, a medical student who worked as an escort to pay for her studies.
The series was canceled after just one season due to low ratings. Despite intensive promotion, the cast's chemistry never quite clicked with American audiences. From that point on, her on-screen presence became more selective and tied to physical action projects.
In 2012, she appeared in the film In the Mind of the Killer alongside Matthew Fox. It was one of her most visible forays into big-budget cinema before returning to independent projects. The film grossed only 35 million dollars worldwide on an estimated budget of 34 million.
Jacobsen keeps an extremely low public profile.
In 2018, she was part of the cast of the Australian alien invasion film Occupation. The project had a sequel in 2020 titled Occupation: Rainfall, in which she did not reprise her role as Amelia Chambers. Her most recent recorded appearance in a long-running production was the series NCIS in 2014, with a single-episode contract for the role of Agent Leia Pendergast.
