With more than five decades of career behind her, Tantoo Cardinal has established herself as one of the most respected and magnetic figures in the international film industry. Of Métis descent and born in Anzac, Alberta (Canada), her screen presence goes beyond mere acting; she is a symbol of resistance, authenticity and a vital voice for Indigenous peoples of North America in the seventh art.

Throughout her career, Cardinal has skillfully moved between big Hollywood productions and committed independent cinema, amassing more than 120 film and television credits. Her ability to bring profound dignity and restrained vulnerability to her characters has made her the go-to actress for directors seeking an emotional truth that other performers can't reach.

#### A legacy forged between classics and modernity

Although audiences first discovered her in landmark titles such as Dances with Wolves (1990) and Legends of the Fall (1994), Cardinal's career has reached exceptional maturity. Her performance as Lizzie Q in the acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon (Killers of the Flower Moon), directed by Martin Scorsese, was a milestone in her filmography, bringing her renewed visibility and unanimous praise from critics at festivals such as Cannes and the Academy Awards.

This momentum led her to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the series Echo, where she played Chula, a key character who explored family roots and intergenerational trauma, proving that her talent fits seamlessly in both historical drama and contemporary big-budget storytelling.

#### Standing strong in today's landscape and recent projects

In the most recent stage of her career, Tantoo Cardinal has continued to take on stories that challenge stereotypes. Her casting in the second season of the hit series The Last of Us has been one of her most talked-about moves, bringing her veteran presence to one of today's most powerful television franchises. She has also stayed committed to auteur cinema, appearing in films such as The Killers Next Door and contributing to animated projects where she lends her voice to stories rooted in Indigenous oral tradition.

Beyond her work in front of the camera, Cardinal has been honored with the Order of Canada and the Earle Grey Award for her contributions to culture. Her influence extends beyond the screenplay, as she mentors the new generation of Indigenous actors who now find a smoother path thanks to her tireless work over the decades.
