No cinematic filters or film slates stood between her and the phone lens. Yeri Cruz Varela would switch on the camera live to do her makeup while dissecting her love life for thousands of curious viewers on Facebook. Those homemade broadcasts from Veracruz ended up shaping a relentless persona who understood, before anyone else, how voracious vertical-screen consumption works.
Nobody saw the impact coming.
Just as cosmetics brands came knocking, audiences were no longer looking for beauty tips. They were binge-watching a serialized melodrama in which the lead never apologized for her verbal excesses. In 2022, her coronation as Queen of the Veracruz Carnival confirmed that the digital phenomenon had spilled out of phone screens and onto the city's royal avenues.
But the livestream format soon felt too small for her.
In 2023, she decided to step into the recording studio without technical hesitation or formal training. She released the single Chupón, a raw, direct reggaeton track that surpassed one hundred million streams on audio platforms within weeks. Traditional music critics tried to ignore it, but dance floors across Latin America adopted its lines as nighttime anthems.
The traditional music industry didn't take long to react to such a flood of data. In 2024, she signed a global deal with Sony Music Mexico to fund large-scale production.
And the gamble paid off.
That signature sound marked the arrival of singles like Ojitos Chiquititos and direct collaborations with urban music names such as Uzielito Mix and El Bogueto. With Línea Del Perreo, she proved that the success of her hooks wasn't a fluke of an algorithm, but a total synchronicity with youth club culture.
In May 2025, she released her first full-length album, titled De Chava. The project got an extended edition two months later that added collaborations with artists such as Alemán. On that record, the improvisation of the early tracks gave way to syncopated rhythms crafted with much tighter control by veteran sound engineers.
Many predicted she would burn out right after her studio debut. However, in 2026 the artist kept up her release pace with tracks like Baddie and Un Pacto, expanding her live schedule beyond Mexico.
Not every step of the journey was smooth. She faced specific advertising bans, mass cancellation campaigns organized on forums, and temporary suspensions of her profiles after media feuds with other internet personalities.
Cruz Varela overcame every setback by multiplying her hours on camera. By the end of 2025, her official channel had amassed over four hundred million views across purely musical productions.
