City of God

Based on a true story, the film follows the rise of organized crime in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, when drug trafficking and violence took over amid the misery of the favelas. "Buscapé" is 11 years old and is just one more kid in Cidade de Deus, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Shy and gentle, he watches the tough kids of his neighborhood, their robberies, their fights and their daily clashes with the police. He already knows what he wants to be if he manages to survive: a photographer. "Dadinho," a boy his own age, moves into the neighborhood. He dreams of becoming the most dangerous criminal in Rio de Janeiro and begins his training running errands for the local gangsters. Two parallel lives in City of God.
