Election

For reasons he himself doesn't understand, a high school teacher decides to stop his best student from winning the coveted position of class president. A seemingly simple comedy that soon reveals itself to be a complex, biting lesson on ambition, corruption and desire at their most raw and petty. Every scene is a mix of humor and bitterness that leaves the viewer halfway between surprise and empathy. It's no surprise, then, that it earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2000.
