A Film by Ladislao Vajda

Marcelino is a baby abandoned at the door of a Franciscan friary in 19th-century Spain. The monks raise him, and the boy grows into a restless, mischievous kid who scampers through the hallways and gets into everything. One day he is ordered not to go up to the friary's attic, where, he has been told, a very big man lives who will take him away. Marcelino, however, can't resist his curiosity and decides to sneak up the stairs. Ladislao Vajda directs the movie, and Pablito Calvo plays the lead role.

Trivia about The Miracle of Marcelino

The figure of Christ isn't the same as the Caloco: it's a sculpture by Antonio Simont that today sits in a convent in Don Benito (Badajoz).
The Cannes Film Festival gave a special mention to Pablito Calvo, the boy who plays Marcelino in the movie.
Pablo Sorozábal's score and its theme song are performed entirely within the action, not at the beginning of the movie.
Three key scenes were shot in La Alberca (Salamanca), including the market scene, where Marcelino ends up on a greased pole after causing a pair of oxen to stampede.
