Maudie

Maud Dowley (Sally Hawkins) is a cheerful woman from Nova Scotia who dreams of breaking free from her overprotective family. Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) is a grumpy local fisherman looking for a housekeeper. After seeing his ad, Maudie soon moves into Everett's home to take care of the household chores. But what starts as a difficult coexistence between two opposites slowly turns into a love story… Based on a true story, the film follows Canadian painter Maud Lewis, her relationship with Everett Lewis, who became her inseparable life companion, and how her simple paintings came to be seen and recognized across the country, making her one of Canada's most representative folk artists.
