The entire world is shaken the day a UFO lands without warning in Washington, and out steps Klaatu, a humanoid alien, accompanied by Gort, a robot. Klaatu asks to meet with all the rulers of Earth at once to deliver a very important message, but his request is rejected. Klaatu realizes he needs to better understand how humans live and, to do so, stays at the home of a woman, mother of a boy, with whom Klaatu forms a friendship.
