In 1988, martial law ends in Taiwan, and two schoolboys, A-han and Birdy, are on the verge of starting a forbidden romance after meeting in the school band conducted by a Canadian priest named Oliver. While the whole country mourns the late president, the two boys enjoy each other's company as A-han's affection for Birdy grows. However, society is homophobic, and the threat of violence and social shame posed by adults and their teenage peers pushes the two into conflict as they move closer to physically acting on their mutual passion.
