In 1989, a kid from Moratalaz who called himself Alejandro Magno recorded an impossible album titled Los chulos son pa’ cuidarlos. The cover showed a twentysomething in a bullfighter's vest and slicked-back pompadour over a techno-rumba base that bordered on embarrassing. That vinyl sold barely five hundred copies.

Anyone else would have retired to an office job after a blow like that. But Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro had no backup plan and no desire to give up. Two years later, under the Warner label and with his surname shortened to Sanz, he released Viviendo deprisa. It featured ten melodic pop songs recorded in Italy that sold more than one million copies and blew up radio playlists across an entire country.

Nobody gave him a chance.

It drew legions of female fans who camped outside his building, although the specialized press viewed it with the suspicion reserved for fast-consumption youth phenomena. Sanz responded by locking himself in the studio to fortify his compositional technique. Si tú me miras arrived in 1993, and 3 in 1995, where he introduced Latin brass, clean flamenco guitars and lyrics that sidestepped easy rhymes.

The Conquest of Two Million

In the summer of 1997, he released Más and blew up the commercial charts across the Spanish-speaking market. The album earned 2.2 million certified copies in Spain and surpassed five million worldwide, thanks to the pull of Corazón partío and Amiga mía. No domestic album has come close to that sales peak since.

And then she decided to leave.

Settling in Miami helped him protect his private life and break into the US market without singing in English, a calculated strategy that earned him four Grammy Awards and twenty-four Latin Grammys. During this period he recorded MTV Unplugged in 2001 with producer Humberto Gatica, collaborated on duets with Alicia Keys and Shakira, and filled stadiums from Buenos Aires to Los Angeles.

The cameras soon followed the celebrity well beyond the stage. In 2018, Sanz: Lo que fui es lo que soy hit movie theaters, a feature film co-directed by Gervasio Iglesias and Alexis Morante that showed the musician's home archive without promotional touch-ups.

The screen had no mercy for silences.

The Filming After the Breakup

In May 2023, the songwriter posted a terse message on social media admitting he was exhausted, sad and drained of the energy needed for tours. That public confession coincided with a personal breakup and a switch of sides in the record label offices. In June 2023, he ended his run with Universal Music after more than a decade of shared catalog and signed with Sony Music to start over.

So studio work became once again his only orderly way out. In October 2024, he released Palmeras en el jardín, an orchestrated ballad shaped between Madrid and Miami and produced by Casta.

The production company Sony Music Vision used that period of rebuilding to shoot the documentary series Cuando nadie me ve with filmmaker Álvaro Ron, which premiered on Movistar Plus+ in January 2026. The crew amassed more than two hundred hours of raw footage shot across Spain and the Americas, including therapy sessions, closed-door rehearsals and testimonials from his inner circle.

The final cut discarded ninety percent of the footage and set the runtime at three 50-minute episodes, mastered in Dolby Atmos sound and 4K format for distribution on streaming platforms.
