Callina Liang

From Perth to London

Callina Liang was born in Singapore but grew up in Perth. At eighteen, she decided Australia was too small for her and bought a one-way ticket to London without a solid Plan B. She was only looking for a chance at ArtsEd, one of the most demanding acting schools in the United Kingdom.

London doesn't give anything away.

In 2021, she landed her first professional role in Apple TV+'s Foundation. It was a brief part as Gaal's sister (the lead), but it got casting directors to note her name in their databases. The British industry works slowly, and Liang knew how to wait her turn without losing hope in the waiting rooms.

In 2022, she played Tatiana in Tell Me Everything. It was her first major role in an ITVX production that explored teenage mental health with unusual rawness. Critics praised her ability to hold silences and her gaze in scenes of intense emotional weight.

Then came American streaming.

Technique Versus Exposure

In 2023, Paramount+ needed an actress for its series Fatal Attraction who could convey the vulnerability and suppressed rage of a young Ellen Gallagher. Liang won the role after several auditions recorded over Zoom from her bedroom. The production demanded absolute restraint, a sharp contrast to her earlier work in British teen television.

Before stepping onto a professional set, she usually reviews her notes on her character's emotional arc. She is not an extreme method actor, but she trusts thorough technical preparation completely. Because talent without a solid work structure behind it is just noise to producers.

But the international market is a meat grinder for new faces.

Despite the visibility these platforms gave her, she still lives in East London. She prefers ongoing training in theater workshops to constant exposure at social events. In 2024, she focused on independent projects seeking distribution in European film markets.

Filming for her most recent role in a long-running series was completed over sixteen weeks, with twelve-hour days. Production cost per episode exceeded two million euros due to the heavy use of natural outdoor night locations.
