Mud and the Runway

Carolina Ardohain arrived in Buenos Aires from La Pampa with little more than an iron-willed ambition. She worked in clothing stores and as a saleswoman before the cameras noticed her smile. It was not a slow process. The photographer who discovered her understood that her five-foot-three frame didn't matter next to the intensity of her gaze on glossy paper.

She sold dresses at a shop in Galerías Pacífico.

In 2000 her face burst onto the covers of the most important magazines in the Southern Cone. It was a sudden phenomenon. Argentina's fashion industry was used to runway models who stood six feet tall, and she broke that mold. She earned six-figure paychecks before turning twenty-five.

Fame didn't overwhelm her, though. Quite the opposite. She realized modeling was a bridge to something more lasting and started studying theater while designers competed for her image. In 2001, she took part in the show El Rayo and proved her mental speed was superior to many hosts with years of experience.

The Camera as a Shield

Her move into scripted TV happened in 2002 with a small role in Rebelde Way. But her real trial by fire came in 2005 with the series Doble Vida. There she played Ema in a much darker register than audiences expected from an advertising model. Critics were harsh at the time.

And the bet paid off in the long run.

In 2017, she starred in Desearás al hombre de tu hermana. It was her first leading role in film, and the production embraced an erotic aesthetic typical of the 1970s. The film grossed thousands of dollars in its first week but completely divided critics. Filming lasted six intense weeks under the direction of Diego Kaplan.

Because the film industry shows no mercy to a lack of training, she decided to study theater for years in Chile and Argentina. She didn't want to be just a pretty face on the big screen. So she alternated commercial projects with lower-budget stage plays to build confidence performing live in front of audiences.

The business of exposure

In 2021, she premiered her own reality show titled Siendo Pampita on the Paramount+ platform. The contract granted full access to her private life, including the real-time birth of her daughter. The production recorded more than 500 hours of footage to extract just ten half-hour episodes.

She wouldn't take no for an answer in negotiations.

Her TV work as a judge on dance shows since 2012 allowed her to build a reputation as a cool, technical analyst. But it was in 2022 that she took over leadership of El Hotel de los Famosos. This reality format demanded twelve-hour recording days at an isolated estate in the province of Buenos Aires.

The technical setup for that 2022 show included fourteen robotic cameras and a production crew of one hundred people working rotating shifts.
