In the summer of 2016, Georgina Rodríguez was earning ten euros an hour folding shirts at a luxury store on Serrano Street in Madrid. A few months later, her face was on the front pages of newspapers around the world after her relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo came to light. The gossip press immediately tried to label her as just another companion in the orbit of an elite footballer, but she had a very different relationship with the spotlight.
She was born in Buenos Aires in 1994 and grew up in Jaca, where years of classical ballet instilled strict physical discipline. That physical training gave her a stage poise she would later showcase in front of the cameras without hesitation. Before arriving in Madrid, she spent time in Bristol working as a live-in housekeeper to learn English, a biographical detail her production directors were quick to use as a narrative engine in their audiovisual projects.
Her move to television was no accident.
In February 2020, she stepped onto the stage of the Sanremo Music Festival to host one of the evenings and dance a live tango in front of ten million Italian viewers. Nine months later, she appeared dressed as a lion on the TV competition Mask Singer on Antena 3. She was the first contestant eliminated from the show.
No one recognized her behind the mask.
Those appearances weren't aimed at a career as a method actress, but at testing her direct appeal with a general audience before making the leap to a format where numbers rule. The real game-changer came when production company Komodo Studios designed a custom format with her for Netflix. In January 2022, the first season of I Am Georgina premiered, reaching the global top 10 in 62 countries during its first week on the platform [1].
But the content created a clear critical divide. While cultural analysts pointed to the emptiness of its storyline, the audience devoured its display of private jets, cold cuts, and haute couture with no melodramatic shame whatsoever.
In March 2023, the platform premiered the second installment of the series, marked by grief after the loss of one of her twins during childbirth. The filmmakers avoided the format of constant crying to film her return to work, the red carpets of the Cannes Film Festival, and sponsorship deals with jewelry houses such as Chopard. Rodríguez understood that in today's entertainment business, vulnerability only works if it's sold with advertising lighting.
So she took on the role of de facto producer of her own everyday life.
In September 2024, the third batch of episodes premiered, focusing on her move to Riyadh and her debut in the Middle Eastern market [2]. The format dropped any hint of spontaneity to embrace the rhythm of a forty-minute commercial per episode, with an editing team that prioritized visual impact over dialogue. By then, Guess had signed her to a global image contract worth more than four million euros a year, multiplying her presence on billboards from Tokyo to Los Angeles.
Filming that third season involved two camera crews working nonstop in Saudi Arabia, France, and Spain, gathering more than four hundred hours of raw footage to edit just six half-hour episodes.
