Giovanna Lancellotti didn't wait for luck to knock on her door in Ribeirão Preto. At just 15 years old, she left home to settle in São Paulo with a clear goal. She wanted to act, and she knew the capital was the only place where opportunities weren't mirages.

In 2011, she landed the role of Cecília in the telenovela Insensato Coração. It was a rough landing in Brazil's prime-time slot. Still, critics responded well to her early work and saw real acting potential in her.

That first contract with Red Globo allowed her to take on projects with wide popular appeal. In 2012, she appeared in Gabriela (an adaptation of Jorge Amado's novel), where she played Lindinalva. That role demanded far more dramatic range than her debut, and the actress met the producers' expectations.

The work pace on Brazil's daily series is grueling. Lancellotti spent years filming from sunrise to sunset for productions such as A Regra do Jogo in 2015 and Sol Nascente in 2016. On these sets, she learned that technique matters as much as talent, since rehearsal time is nearly nonexistent.

In 2015, she decided to try her luck in film with the comedy Entre Abelhas. She worked alongside Fabio Porchat on a story that moved away from the usual TV melodrama. It was a smart decision to diversify her professional profile before the market began to change.

The industry changed the rules.

During 2018, she played Rochelle in Segundo Sol. It was one of her most talked-about performances, given the complexity of a character who came close to villainy. But her true international breakthrough was about to arrive through a digital platform.

The Rise of Global Streaming

In 2020, she starred in Ricos de Amor for Netflix. The movie performed so well in countries outside Brazil that the platform quickly commissioned a sequel. That romantic comedy put her on the radar of millions of viewers who had never watched a Globo telenovela.

But her big change of pace came in 2023 with O Lado Bom de Ser Traída. In this erotic thriller feature, she had to face scenes of intense intimacy and emotional tension. The film reached No. 1 globally in the non-English-language category during its first week of release.

In 2024, the actress focused on producing Missão Porto Seguro. It is an action project that aims to leverage her image in a genre where Brazilian women often have less room as leads. The production had a technical crew of more than two hundred people and was shot mainly on natural locations in Bahia.

The final viewership for her last three streaming movies tops sixty million hours watched worldwide.
