Herman Tømmeraas was born in 1997 in Solbergelva, a small Norwegian town where the buzz of the audiovisual industry barely reached. Before becoming the face of a generation in Scandinavia, he spent his days perfecting urban dance moves in national competitions. His training as a hip hop dancer gave him a physical control that he later applied to his action scenes.
His role in the series Skam in 2015 took his career in an abrupt new direction. He joined for a supporting part, but his screen presence led the writers to expand his role in the following seasons.
He played Chris Schistad.
That success came so suddenly that the actor had to deal with press harassment while completing mandatory military service in Norway in 2017. For months, he balanced barracks duty with autograph requests from other recruits. That period of military discipline taught him that his public image was an asset he had to protect carefully.
In 2020, Netflix signed him to star in Ragnarok. Here he left behind the high school uniform to play Fjor Jutul, an ancient giant trapped in the body of a millionaire heir. Filming took place in Odda, an industrial town that served as the setting for the fictional Edda.
And the change of pace allowed him to explore a coldness he hadn't shown in his previous work.
The series ran for three seasons until its final conclusion in 2023. During those years, Tømmeraas learned to handle the pace of an international production with budgets far beyond those of Norwegian public television. The actor filmed more than eighteen hundred minutes of footage in the role of this antagonist with mythological overtones.
He knows the industry is fleeting.
But his ambition didn't stop at waiting for casting directors' calls. In 2018, he decided to get involved in production on the series Semester (where, in addition to acting, he served as executive producer) so he would have a say in the project's financial decisions. This move aimed to secure his future beyond his ability to attract a teen audience.
In 2022, he appeared in the horror film Leave, directed by Alex Herron. It was his first major attempt to move away from the teen roles that had defined him for nearly a decade. The film followed a young woman searching for her roots in Norway, and he played a character with a much darker, more restrained dramatic weight.
Filming wrapped in 2023.
Beyond the film and TV sets, he has diversified his income by creating his own clothing brand and through direct collaborations with luxury fashion labels. In 2024, his presence at international design events confirmed that his personal branding strategy prioritizes exclusivity over social media overexposure. His representation contract is managed by agencies in Oslo and London to cover both the Nordic and English-speaking markets.
Production on the third season of Ragnarok carried an estimated cost of several million Norwegian kroner per episode shot on location.
