Highdee Kuan grew up in a rural village in the Netherlands, surrounded by fields and absolute silence. That European childhood shaped her character long before Hollywood appeared on her professional horizon. She studied classical ballet for years with almost military discipline. And that physical training ended up being her best tool for understanding the rhythm of a scene.
Dance was his first language.
In 2017, she decided that Los Angeles was the place to test her talent. She had no industry contacts, but she had rigorous training that helped her avoid the common pitfalls of first-time actors. Her first television appearances were brief and to the point. In 2019, she took part in the series You, and a year later she landed a role in This Is Us during 2020.
Those appearances in high-profile productions taught her the logistics of major shoots. But she was looking for roles with more dramatic depth.
In 2023, her name began to gain more traction with independent film casting directors. She shot Fear the Night under director Neil LaBute, where she played Rose. It was a physically demanding shoot that required precise technical coordination for the action sequences. Sharing the screen with Maggie Q allowed her to closely observe how leadership is managed on a film set.
That same year, he premiered Welcome to Redville in 2023, playing Toni. The film explored a criminal storyline in a suffocating setting. The contrast between pure action and psychological drama became her signature during that period.
And the gamble paid off.
Her big breakthrough came when she joined the cast of The Brothers Sun in 2024. In this production she plays Alexis, a Los Angeles district attorney whose ambition directly clashes with her personal ties. Filming was split between locations in California and Taipei to capture the essence of Asian crime syndicates. The series had a budget of several million dollars per episode and demanded that Kuan handle legal dialogue with flawless precision.
Critics praised her ability to stay cool in a setting of dark comedy and choreographed violence. But she has always preferred to keep a low profile off camera. She rarely frequents the usual California celebrity circuits and prefers to focus on choosing scripts that challenge her comfort zone.
Her academic training in visual arts lets her understand shot composition in a way few actors manage. For her, framing is just as important as the script.
Her contract for her role in the 2024 crime drama included three weeks of specific training with royal prosecutor's office consultants to lend authenticity to her courtroom scenes.
