Josha Stradowski is not your typical product of the Los Angeles acting schools. He was born in Rotterdam in 1995 and, before turning ten, was already performing on stage in major musicals such as The Sound of Music. It was no child's play, since the technical demands of Dutch theaters taught him to see the stage as a craft.

In 2014, he enrolled at the AHK, the prestigious Amsterdam School of Theatre. There, he stepped away from commercial spotlights to focus on movement and voice. But film soon came knocking with short projects that helped him gain experience before his international breakthrough.

Anonymity was suddenly over.

The Quiet Success of a Rural Romance

In 2018, he starred in Gewoon Vrienden. The film tells the story of two young people from different backgrounds who fall in love in a rural setting in the Netherlands. The movie won the audience award at international festivals and put Stradowski on the radar of European casting directors.

That role demanded an almost documentary-like naturalness. And the gamble paid off. His chemistry with his co-star and the restraint of his performance kept the film from slipping into cheap sentimentality. It was the exact moment he decided his career would not be limited to the Dutch market.

In 2020, he filmed Hoogvliegers, playing an air force cadet. For this role, he had to undergo real physical training and learn the flight protocols of an F-16. This military discipline would later serve as a foundation for what came next in major American productions.

The Weight of Steel in Prague

Amazon Prime Video's offer changed his pace of life in 2021. Playing Rand al’Thor in the adaptation of The Wheel of Time meant moving to Prague and leading one of the most expensive productions in the streaming platform's history. The pressure was intense, because readers of Robert Jordan's literary saga had spent decades imagining the protagonist's face.

Stradowski spent months training with a sword and bow before filming began. But the most complex part wasn't the physical side; it was handling the psychological evolution of a character who carries the fate of his world on his shoulders. During filming of the first season, he kept away from social media noise so it wouldn't cloud his view of the script.

The result was a physical and restrained performance.

By 2023, the series already had a second season confirmed and filmed. Producers praised his ability to endure 14-hour workdays in the rain or the bitter cold of the Central European locations. The contract ties the actor to the franchise for several additional seasons, depending on global viewership figures.

The Discipline of the Engine

His leap to the Hollywood big screen came in 2023 with Gran Turismo. Under the direction of Neill Blomkamp, he played Nicholas Capa, an arrogant pilot who serves as the main antagonist of the story. It was a necessary change of pace that helped him move away from the image of the vulnerable hero he had cultivated in epic fantasy.

For this production, he had to shoot on real racetracks such as the Hungaroring. Although the cars were driven by stunt drivers for the high-risk shots, the demands of the cockpit scenes were very real. The heat inside the cockpit and the G-forces forced the cast to follow a strict diet and a hydration plan monitored by sports doctors.

There was no room for improvisation.

The film grossed more than $120 million at the global box office in 2023. Stradowski shared the screen with actors such as Orlando Bloom and David Harbour, proving he could hold his own in a major studio blockbuster. He filmed his scenes over just a few weeks of intensive work between Hungary and the United Arab Emirates.

In 2024, the actor's schedule was filled with planning the next phases of his television contract. Production costs for his current projects exceed $10 million per episode. Stradowski keeps his main residence in Europe despite his contractual obligations in the United States.
