Julie Condra was born in Texas in 1970 and was already working as a print ad model before turning ten. She is one of those actresses that 90s audiences recognize instantly, though her name often takes a back seat to the strength of her characters.
Her professional debut came in 1990. She played Madeline Adams in The Wonder Years, and that romantic interest role was enough for casting directors to see her as the ideal girl next door of rural America.
And the industry quickly moved to capitalize on that image.
In 1991, she starred in Eerie, Indiana. The series was a cult sci-fi oddity for young audiences that fans study today, but during its run on NBC it lasted only nineteen episodes due to its unsettling tone.
During 1995, she accepted a role in Crying Freeman, a film adaptation of a manga directed by Christophe Gans. There she met Mark Dacascos. They married in 1998, and the relationship became the central focus of her life, above any contract with major Los Angeles studios.
Because Condra decided that media exposure was not an absolute priority. They moved to Hawaii, and she began choosing her projects sparingly in order to prioritize the education of their three children far from the spotlight of California.
Film became a secondary activity.
She appeared sporadically in shows like Walker, Texas Ranger or low-budget movies. But she never sought to regain the workload she had in her early twenties, when she landed national TV projects back to back every month.
In 2019, she returned to the set to appear in The Driver. The production was filmed in Thailand, where she shared the cast with her husband and their daughter, Makoa Dacascos. Director Wych Kaosayananda was looking for that real-life chemistry for a story of action and extreme survival.
A year later, in 2020, she reunited with the same filmmaker for One Night in Bangkok. This time she played June, a supporting character in a revenge thriller shot entirely on location in Thailand with a small crew.
One Night in Bangkok was released directly to digital in August 2020 and received a 5.1 rating on the specialized site IMDb.
