Kanaphan Puitrakul had no intention of becoming an actor when he went along with friends to an audition in 2016. He won the lead role in a tourism promotion project, and that unplanned shoot opened the doors to Thai commercial film. In 2017, he officially made his big-screen debut in the movie The Lost Found.
The die was cast.
After that first contact with the cameras, he signed an exclusive contract with the production company GMMTV in 2018. His early years were a run of supporting roles in series such as Wake Up Ladies and Wolf, which premiered in 2019. But the Thai studio system demands endurance, and Kanaphan had to wait his turn while refining an acting technique built on physical restraint.
In 2020, he played Kim in The Shipper, where a different side of his acting began to emerge. The series played with body swapping, but he managed to keep his character from falling into easy parody. That ability to carry dramatic weight is what led to projects with greater narrative depth, such as Not Me in 2021.
That production, directed by Anucha Boonyawatana, marked a necessary change of tone. Kanaphan played Yok, and his work stood out for its emotional intensity in the scenes of social protest. The script demanded a physical commitment he had not shown in his previous work.
Audiences connected with his gaze.
The partnership with Khaotung Thanawat in 2022 redefined his position in the Asian entertainment industry. With the series The Eclipse, they built a professional bond that translated into millions of interactions on social media. The production company then decided to capitalize on that chemistry in successive projects to secure the profitability of international tours across Asia.
In 2023, he took part in Only Friends, where the story moved away from school innocence to explore toxic relationships and nocturnal settings. The shoot was demanding because of the physical load of the scenes. Still, Kanaphan kept a restrained performance amid a very aggressive ensemble cast.
The Thai industry moves in fast cycles.
By 2024, he was involved in The Heart Killers under the direction of Jojo Tichakorn. The project marked a shift toward pure action, with combat choreography and extensive use of firearms on set. Most of the production was shot on location outdoors to avoid the artificial look of closed studios.
The budgets for these productions rose by 30 percent compared with the standards of 2020. Kanaphan Puitrakul completed his academic training in Social Communication Innovation at Srinakharinwirot University, specializing in directing and acting. The production company's official records confirm that his contract remains tied to its main talent division through the end of the decade.
