She appeared in series such as Empire in 2015, playing Leah Walker. Her role was complex and dark, and she pulled it off without the usual tics of pop stars who act out of pure promotional obligation.

Maturing behind the camera

In 2019, she founded her own production company to have full control over her projects. That's how the holiday movie series Merry Liddle Christmas was born for the Lifetime network. She didn't just act; she also made decisions about casting and the tone of the script.

Kelly Rowland learned early that in Hollywood, power lies in intellectual property. That's why, in 2024, she joined Tyler Perry to star in and produce the thriller Mea Culpa. Critics were harsh on the storyline, but its audience numbers on digital platforms were massive.

And the gamble paid off.

During the filming of that legal thriller in 2023, she oversaw every technical detail of the tense scenes. The movie hit number one in more than sixty countries during its first week in theaters. The distribution contract included a five-year territorial exclusivity clause.
